National Geographic Photographer and Eddie Bauer Adventure Guide Trevor Frost recently posted a clip of a crocodile standing up out of the water on his Instagram.
…What? Crocodiles can’t stand?
You’re right — they can’t. Although it might look like it, this crocodile isn’t actually standing, but is propelling itself out of the water to get to the meat hanging above:
According to the caption provided by Frost, “crocodiles have incredibly strong tails. Their tails propel them in the water like torpedoes from a submarine. In fact, as you see here, their tails are so strong that they can propel their entire body out of the water.”
Apparently this is what crocodiles do, and have been doing for ages. I don’t know if I’m more shocked at how awesome this captured moment is, or the fact that I had no idea that crocodiles can actually propel themselves out of the water.
