Meet Aslan. He is a 17-year-old refugee from Syria. He's fled Syria and traveled across the Mediterranean Sea and arrived in Greek island of Lesbos, where this video was shot by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Aslan walked for about 500 km carrying his small backpack and a carrier for his puppy, named Rose.
In this video, the interviewer asks:
Some people will ask - you have only a small bag [...] And you bring your dog [...] Why?
The answer that Aslan gives - is so simple yet so touching:
Aslan's love and affection towards Rose should come as no surprise to dog lovers out there. There must be so many life stories similar to this going on amidst the Syrian crisis - we should do our best to keep our eyes and hearts open for them.
