Nothing is more mystical than the enigmatic darkness of the night sky.
If you’ve ever looked up into its obscurity and wondered what it would be like to float freely among the stars and clouds, this dreamlike installation might reveal some of those secrets.
Foam by Japanese artist Kohei Nawa allowed visitors to walk through a maze of clouds installed in a dark room, making it seem as though they were wandering in the night sky.
But that wasn’t all this celestial structure was — it also conveyed a message about the unrelenting cycle of birth and death that all living organisms are bound to.
“Small bubbles (cells) continue to form on the surface of a gently lapsing liquid,” Nawa explained on his website. “They accumulate to form an autonomous structure comprised of foam. Each bubble cannot escape the cycle of birth and destruction, which is not unlike the way our cells operate as they metabolize and circulate.”
