We'll be honest, the "omfg wacky Japan lol" narrative gets overstated a bit too much sometimes, and as much as we'd like to not feed it where possible, there is no denying that what may pass for normal television commercials over here has some truly over-the-top material for foreign audiences.

One reason this narrative exists is that the commercials that seem stranger and wackier end up being sensationalized the most, winding up on YouTube, or articles like the one you are reading now and can be misunderstood as a norm for all Japanese television. Another reason is that the cultural of Japanese television commercials is very active--elaborate and animated advertisements that are often times part of series need to be short, yet memorable. That's why the some of the more bizarre ones end up being such an assault on the senses.

But armed with that information, there's nothing wrong with enjoying some harmless fun and watching a collection of the wildest Japanese commercials courtesy of JPCMHD, a channel where you can find loads of similar commercials. While some Japanese knowledge would help you appreciate some subtleties, they are largely understood (or better understood!) without translation.
