There are over 600 train platform fences in Japan currently.
They prevent intoxicated people and young children from falling off onto the rails; they also prevent people from committing suicide.
Twitter user @Non51235 saw a different type of platform fence, which had become a hot topic on Japanese social network.
Between the platform and train are five bars made of ropes. When the train stops, this happens:

The bars go up (quite high, actually), so people can walk right underneath them.
This type of a fence has been tested since 2013. Because a lot of it is made of ropes, it costs a lot less than traditional metal doors. It's also a lot easier to set up.
We'd love to see this fence being introduced in stations soon!
