You may remember the internet frenzy that was caused when McDonald's Japan released their sweet and salty chocolate sauce covered French fries, which we had the confused honor of trying. Now with Halloween just around the corner, McDonald's Japan is taking advantage of their love for seasonal releases with a true trick-or-treat release: French fries doused in black and orange chocolate and pumpkin sauce!

Titled the Halloween Choco Potato (French fries are called fried potatoes in Japan), the spooky treat consists of classic McDonald's French fries, only they are served with a convenient DIY yourself sauce packet (which you should observe here) that will let you top your fries with a mixture of two Halloween colored sauces. The orange sauce is said to capture the soft and rich aroma of a pumpkin, while the black promises a deep and thick chocolate taste.
Starting September 28th and likely running for a limited time, the Halloween Choco Potato will be sold at McDonald's throughout Japan individually for 330 yen ($3.23), and as an added bonus you can upgrade any of the sides of your sets to the Halloween treat for 60 yen. While this definitely falls into the category of Japan's many eccentric and adventurous seasonal flavors, we have a feeling they will taste like tangy sweet potato fries.
We'll be sure to try them out and see whether they fall under the trick or treat category for you.
