Spring is finally here! Chirping birds, sakura blossoming, strawberry fairs and the bloodcurdling screams of your victims. Just spring things, you know?

Japan has a wide range of themed cafes and bars from popular franchises like Pokemon or Sailor Moon to hobbies like trains. There's even a Buddhist monk bar and a Christian church themed cafe.

So it’s only fair that the legions of the undead are catered for too. Tokyo’s Vampire Café is situated in the stylish area of Ginza and offers a place for immortal bloodsuckers to while away the evening after sun down, in a suitably gothic setting.

This time of year in Japan is considered strawberry season, and it’s common to see ‘strawberry fairs’ in restaurants and cafes, offering limited time only dishes that incorporate the little red fruit.

We don’t normally expect such a light hearted symbol of spring to show up at a horror themed café, but turns out with its bloody hue the humble strawberry makes a chillingly fitting addition.

All the names of the dishes are characteristically long and poetic to express the tortured soul of a cursed being. The special strawberry menu includes:

Bloody Candle - A Lamp that Flashes in the Dark Night (cocktail)

A cocktail which incorporates the 'miracle' of a flaming strawberry and is a tempting mix of strawberries and white chocolate.

Strawberry Blood - The Earl's Goblet (cocktail)

A vodka base cocktail with mixed berries. Beautiful like the blood of a maiden apparently.

Monster Berry - The Monster that Hides in the Spider's Web (non-alcoholic drink)

Pour the blood (strawberry syrup) over the spider's web to reveal what hides underneath, then you can enjoy this strawberry and yogurt drink.

Vampire Kiss - The Kiss of a Bloodstained Rose (non-alcoholic drink)

Strawberries and roses decorate this very photogenic light-up drink.

Two desserts are also available named 'Virgin Wing' and 'Dirty Wing' One is a Mascarpone cheese mousse and the other a rich chocolate one.

So there you have it, strawberries and vampires are a match made in heaven. Or should that be hell? Or should that be the eternal limbo of immortality? At any rate you should hurry, because unlike vampires, this menu will only be around for a limited time.
