Ezaki Glico's best-selling frozen treat, Ice no Mi sherbet balls, are always a familiar sight in convenience store and supermarket freezers. A delight to eat in summer or any time of the year, the tasty sherbet balls in their convenient and easy-to-eat pouches have been a children's favorite for the past 33 years.
Vegetables join the Ice no Mi lineup
As we've seen before with vegetable shaved ice shop Azabu Yasaigashi, for example, combining vegetables into an iced dessert is not a new concept in Japan. However, for Ice no Mi, which has stayed with fruits for the past 33 years, vegetables were a previously unexplored territory.
Ezaki Glico has now created a special edition of Ice no Mi featuring Japanese grown vegetables. Supervised by Tokuoka Kunio, the third-generation owner of the respected traditional restaurant Kyoto Kitcho, this series, which took over 2 years to develop, features Japanese carrots, Japanese corn, Japanese kabocha pumpkin and Japanese satsumaimo sweet potatoes.

What a surprise! It had the same familiar texture of Ice no Mi, with its harder outside shell and melt-in-your-mouth sherbet interior, but the rich and creamy flavor of sweet corn was a new sensation.
A delicious way to get your veggies
According to Ezaki Glico, "we wanted to make a snack which parents around the world would feel safe giving their children. We thought we could come up with ice cream with surprising novelty while also providing a healthy snack. For parents' peace of mind, we use no colorants, additional flavors or artificial sweeteners."
