Yuuri (@tenkichi1212) is a freelance illustrator who works on concept art for games and anime among other projects. But the art that got her noticed on Twitter recently are these gorgeous illustrations of her grandparents’ house.

She wrote that as a child she would always go to visit her grandparents in the summer.

They lived on a small island in the Seto Inland Sea, and the artist says she wanted to make a record of it before it disappeared.

She used photographs and her own memory to put together the recreations.

Each room is drawn in startling detail, almost like a cross section, showing the layout, all the knick-knacks and little quirks of the household.

She also recreated the local shop she often went to at that time.

Although these illustrations may seem specific to her childhood, it seems she struck a chord with others who visited relatives’ houses in the countryside growing up. Looking at the pictures made many nostalgic when they recognised the shared characteristics between the illustrations and their own experiences.
