The brand X-girl was co-founded by Kim Gordon, a member of 90s rock band Sonic Youth, and these grunge origins are apparent in the retro fashion it provides.

Earlier this year they debuted a lineup perfect for classic anime fans, featuring scenes and characters from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Like X-girl, Neon Genesis Evangelion debuted in the mid-nineties, and something about Evangelion’s retro anime artwork and dark themes made it the perfect choice for this edgy street fashion

After the success of this previous collaboration, X-girl have now selected another legendary offering from the anime world, Ghost in the Shell, as inspiration for a new collection. In particular, the collaboration is in honour of the Ghost in the Shell SAC_2045 series.

The range includes various loose fitting t-shirts, both long and short sleeved.

This long sleeved design features the ‘Tachikoma’ robot as seen in the Stand Alone Complex sub-universe of Ghost in the Shell, and combines this with an X, standing for X-girl.

Another t-shirt has a subtle motif on the front, the logo of the National Public Safety Commission which Major Kusanagi is a part of, but has a more striking graphic on the back, showing a ‘scanned’ profile of the protagonist.

This short-sleeved number has a white background with Kusanagi Motoko on the front and a ‘plug’ design at the back, reminiscent of the character’s neck.

The last design captures the edgy sci-fi image perfectly with a 'digital noise' accent over X-girl's 'Face' graphic.

Ghost in the Shell fans can find this throwback inspired lineup at branches of X-girl across Japan, or on the online store.
