Dogs are incredibly expressive creatures. Through a variety of body movements, sounds — and most importantly, facial expressions — humans are able to create a bond with these furry companions despite not sharing a common language.
It’s this last trait that dogs have, the facial expressions, that artist Eiji Tamura (田村英史) manages to faithfully immortalize in his paintings. Inspired by the lively street art found in cities like Los Angeles and New York, Tamura creates paintings of our pets in the most colorful way possible.

He has a long history of exhibitions not just in Japan, but also in places like New York and the Philippines. For 2021, he’s starting the year with a solo exhibition in Tokyo, where he’ll be displaying a variety of paintings of dogs in all breeds and colors.
