Celebrate Chinese New Year from the comfort of your own home this year, with this humble light-up for hope at Tokyo Tower.
Tokyo tower will light-up in red for Chinese New Year for the third year running in 2021. Additionally, the kanji for ‘hope’ will be projected on the main deck observatory window, to symbolise and strengthen the friendship between Japan and China, as well as to represent the world’s desire to eliminate COVID-19.
This will be the first time two or more kanji characters have been projected onto the window of Tokyo Tower’s main deck observatory for Chinese New Year.
This year, due to the ongoing threat of COVID-19, Tokyo Tower’s Chinese New Year event will be on a much smaller scale than normal, and will be without the usual food stalls, stage performances and Chinese New Year traditions such as the lion dance. Instead, the Tower’s light-up ceremony will include speeches from four ambassadors to the relationship between the two countries and will be broadcast live to the world through YouTube.
