Pool Player Naoyuki Oi Gives The Greatest Interview Ever
According to the ‘Japanese Sauna Fact-finding Survey 2021’, which was released by the Japan Sauna and Hot and Cold Bath Research Institute earlier this year, the number of people who enjoy the benefits of sauna sessions four or more times per month is estimated to be around 3.39 million. This number is continuing to increase as an unprecedented ‘sauna boom’ is taking place by persistent sauna enthusiasts throughout the country.
Hotel New Otani is arguably Tokyo’s most stylish accommodation spot, and despite being in the center of the metropolitan city, boasts a 10,000 tsubo garden and is one of the only hotels in the city to offer swimming pool facilities.
The swimming pool, which offers a comfortable place to relax for both guests and paying customers during the summer, also stays open after dark and has been leading the industry for ‘night pool’ experiences in Tokyo for more than 20 years.
Taking the initiative yet again, Hotel New Otani is teaming up with creative company NAKED, INC. to provide a Naked Sauna x Night Pool experience for the ‘new normal’ COVID-19 era.
The collaboration will see project mapping lights from NAKED transform the swimming pool into an artistic water bath. Beside the cooling water, a number of special Tent-type sauna pods can be rented by groups of up to 4 people. Night Sauna X Night Pool users can ensure their safety by maintaining social distancing mapped out by the artistic lights.
The collaboration event will take place on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 17th September to 17th October 2021 (There are separate dates for men and women). Booking slots are available for two hours, and will be limited to 4 people per tent, with a maximum of 28 people in the venue at any one time.
Advance Reservations can be made for the event online.
Up to four people can reserve their very own tent-type sauna at the event. These sauna tents are from Russian brand MORZH and use 3 separate layers to ensure heat retention. Made of high quality, quilting material ‘Thermo Stick’, the tents shut out the cold air from outside and don’t let the heat escape.
Inside, a high-power convection wood stove is covered by sauna stones. Customers can generate sauna steam and raise the humidity by sprinkling water onto the stones.
