The Christmas season is a time to share love and affection with those around us, and there's no better way to show that you care than to give a little appreciation back to the world.
At MARINE & WALK YOKOHAMA – a mall facing out towards Yokohama Bay – the annual Christmas light up event Merry Mellow Xmas is returning this year from the 13th of November to the 25th of December.
The event will once again focus on sustainability, and by bringing things that have served their original purposes to life again the concept of an “upcycled Christmas” will be developed, with this year's theme being Denim & Green.

Supporting sustainable efforts, Merry Mellow Xmas will collect discarded denim from both inside and outside of the shopping mall, and will combine it with dried flowers, fairy lights and other decorations to regenerate the material as “denim art”.

The most standout display at Merry Mellow Xmas this year will be a giant snow globe containing a Christmas Tree made out of recycled denim. Illuminated by LED fairy lights, the snow globe is an artistic and enlivened vision of what a sustainable Christmas should look like.

In addition to the upcycled displays decorating the complex and a large number of photo spots spread across the facilities, the event will also see the involvement of each store as they get in on the fun and develop limited edition items and menus – a handful of which have been highlighted below.

Berry Hot Chocolate – Available at SODABAR

SODABAR’s ever-popular hot chocolate drink gets a taste-over, with the addition of sweet and sour homemade berry sauce which has been mixed into the beverage.

Chilli Crab – Available at HAWKERS 海南鶏飯

Heather Brown Matte Print Art – Available at GREENROOM GALLERY

Limited to the holiday season, this collection of art prints from Heather Brown looks at the festive season from a surfing point of view.

Denim Toy Bear – Available at DENHAM

Made with love and out of a variety of different types of denim, each teddy bear is a one-of-a-kind limited edition toy that will only be available this season.

MARINE & WALK YOKOHAMA’s Christmas event will be running until the 25th of December 2021.
The complex itself is situated beside Yokohama’s iconic bay, and is home to a number of unique stores that offer select items and import goods. Located a short 9 minute walk from Exit 6 of Bashamichi Station, or 15 minutes on foot from Sakuragicho Station, the shopping mall is easily accessible.
