May is a big hitter when it comes to special days in Japan, with many of the Golden Week holidays and even Mother’s Day, all occurring in the same month.
Floresta, a doughnut shop that specialises in organic, hand-made doughnuts, are celebrating two of these occasions with some adorable animal doughnuts.
Children’s Day is a national holiday in Japan, that occurs on 5th May. On this day, you can see houses flying carp-shaped streamers outside, called koinobori. The black carp is on top, followed by a red carp, and then a blue carp at the bottom. This decoration has been recreated in doughnut form by Floresta, and they cleverly use a stick to stack the colourful fish in the right order.
Then Mother’s Day will take place on the following Sunday, on the 8th May. The Mother’s Day offering combines a cute cat head in the middle of the ring doughnut, with a dried strawberry decoration. These are arranged to look like carnations, a traditional gift given to mothers. This sweet snack is the perfect way to say thank you to your mother on Mother's Day.
These limited-time-only doughnuts are currently on sale at certain branches of Floresta in Japan.
