Of Japan's wide selection of animal cafes--cafes where you can enjoy a beverage while playing with, petting, and feeding animals--there has been a recent trend toward more exotic animals. However, by far the most common variety is that of cat cafes. So in order you stand out as a business, it makes sense to offer up a particularly cute gimmick, like a cat cafe in Saitama where the feline staff is known for cosplaying in their spare time. And while there are many uncomfortable with the idea of cat cafes in general, there are many that simultaneously operate as shelters where you can actually buy a cat--and even one that specifically asks customers to take home their neglected kitties with feline AIDs.

Cat Cafe Mocha has a different approach to attracting customers, however. The trendy chain of cat cafes brands itself as a high-class and luxurious cat lounge, so it's no surprise that its stylish interior has become a hit in Tokyo's fashionable Harajuku. Now the fancy cat cafe is taking its elegant feline strut to Nagoya, and the decor may make you wonder if the kitty staff has it better than us humans do.

Each Mocha branch features a slightly differently themed decor, but Nagoya's seems to resemble that of a high-end hostess club or party lounge. Whether the cats can tell the difference between Mocha's lavish stylings and a living room filled with cardboard boxes is uncertain, but there are quite a few rules in place to make sure the kitties feel like the celebrities they are.

For instance, play that involves chasing around cats, outside food and drink, and flash photography are prohibited. While the cats have an advertised feeding time of twice a day--where they all line up and munch away adorably at what is likely high grade kibble--customers can purchase snacks for 500 yen to personally feed cats and garner their affection (like drinks for a hostess at a hostess club). These are limited in quantity so as not to overfeed the cats. Staff at the cafe also put a priority on keeping the lounge as clean as possible.

Aside from the glamorous setting, Mocha doesn't really advertise itself as your typical "come drink coffee and pet cats" cafe. The store invites guests to come chat, read manga, study, work, or just...hang out with cats! An all you can drink bar (soft drinks) is available for 350 yen an hour, and price of admission to the lounge is 200 yen for 10 minutes. Access to cafe can be found here.
