Hailing from Uji – one of Japan’s top tea production areas – Matcha Republic specialises in providing new and unique ways to enjoy traditional Uji matcha. Under the guidance of a modern tea master, Matcha Republic’s main store became certified earlier this year as an official Uji Tea Cafe.
They say that you can only truly experience the power of Uji Matcha from within Uji City itself, but now, Matcha Republic has opened up a pop-up store in Shibuya, which will provide the people of Tokyo with a gateway into the luxurious world of Uji Matcha and any traditions linked to the famous green powder.
In the store, you’ll be able to find a variety of goods featuring matcha from Uji City. The pop-up store is only sticking around until 28th July 2021, so make sure to head on over to Shibuya’s Hikarie before in order to secure your Uji Matcha fix.
Matcha Republic x Shibuya Hikarie ‘Matcha Ink’
Matcha Republic’s most popular product (more than 150,000 units have been sold since it’s debut), Matcha Ink, has a reputation for being quite the instagramable drink.
Stowed away inside an ornate square glass bottle resembling that which might hold ink, the premium matcha latte is made using carefully selected stone-ground Uji Matcha. With the glass bottle filled to the brim with milky green matcha latte, you might find yourself wondering if it is at all possible to write calligraphy with matcha, and if so, what kind of person would do that?
At the pop-up store, the Matcha Ink latte will be available in two special editions dedicated to the collaboration with Shibuya’s Hikarie. These drinks are limited, and will end as soon as all units are sold.
Matcha Ink Latte ‘Premium Uji Matcha Latte’ – 681 yen (tax included)
Matcha Ink Latte ‘Vanilla Uji Matcha Latte’ – 731 yen (tax included)
Available with it’s very own glass teacup (that’s right, you get to keep the glass), this mouthwatering Matcha Panna Cotta dessert is bursting with the rich and full flavour of stone-ground Uji Matcha. Deep thought and attention has been given to both the ratio of matcha to milk, and how it should be heated. With it’s melty texture and deep matcha scent you’ll be left wondering if that first bite teleported you straight into matcha heaven.
Matcha Panna Cotta in a Teacup – 681 yen (tax included)

If a castella made using stone-ground Uji Matcha carefully selected by Uji Matcha tea masters doesn’t sound stylish enough for you, then how about this one which comes with a gold-leaf finish from Kanazawa.
Tailored by long-established castella craftsmen from Kyoto, Matcha Republic’s Uji Matcha castella can’t be beat for looks, texture nor flavour. Of course, no gold leaf matcha castella is complete without a beautiful gold foil stamped package.
Premium Golden Uji Matcha Castella – 2,381 yen (tax included
Purchases made at the Shibuya Hikarie Matcha Republic pop-up store will be presented with an original PVC shopping bag featuring the Matcha Republic logo.
