When you think of My Neighbour Totoro, one of the first things that comes to mind is the lush, verdant forest that he inhabits. Mild brown rice tea and matcha green tea with tamba black beans make for a very Japanese blend, fitting for a film that celebrates the traditional idea of forest spirits.

For Kiki’s Delivery Service the tea takes on a sweeter incarnation inspired by the bakery the protagonist stays at. Non-caffeinated rooibos is used so it can be drank in the evening before bed. It has a fragrant blend of milk, strawberries and cookies.

The Spirited Away tea also has a distinctly Japanese flavour. Wakayama prefecture’s plums and Hokkaido’s konbu seaweed have been blended while already in the state of tea leaves. They combine harmoniously with Japanese green tea.
Each 40g tin of loose leaf tea retails at 1500 yen and can be bought online.
