In Japan, cranes are seen as mystical creatures, symbols of luck and longevity. They have a fabled life span of 1000 years, and for this reason it is said that anyone who folds 1000 origami cranes will be granted a wish by the gods. A gift of 1000 cranes may be given to someone ill or in hospital, or they can be seen at war memorials as a symbol of peace.

These cranes look like origami, but also like they could have been formed in stained glass. You can't fold glass, so which is it?

The truth, is that they are neither of those things.

Japanese Twitter user, kurumilkcheese, makes many beautiful and colourful items working with resin. She caught the attention of the Twittersphere recently with these charming creations.

By making each individual part of the paper crane, painting it with acrylics and painstakingly sticking them together she created these “origami” cranes which look like stained glass.
