This photo of a Japanese guy cooking up a massive batch of fried rice went viral recently.
This image isn’t photoshopped, but it isn’t exactly real either. You may have guessed from the Twitter caption, but this guy is actually a Youtuber. Kanta is one half of a Youtube duo called Mizutamari Bond, and he planned the whole thing just to prank his partner, Tommy.
Plastic food samples are very common in Japan, giving prospective customers an idea of what they can expect from a restaurant's menu. It seems Kanta contacted one of these food replica companies to order this giant fried rice wave, and it cost him over $4000. Guess he's pretty serious about pranks. As you can see in the video, he gets the desired reaction and shocks his friend.
When the photo Kanta posted on Twitter went viral, the comparisons to Hokusai’s masterpiece, The Great Wave off Kanagawa, were inevitable.
The YouTube duo are surely enjoying the extra interest and currently riding the proverbial viral wave. Check out their channel, MTV Tokyo fried rice Guys, if you want to sea more of their videos!
