Japanese prefectures may be different sizes, have different climates, different charms and different downsides, but they are all worthy of love. That’s the message this jewellery manufacturer wants to send, and they provide a subtle and stylish way to show that love!

If you’re a Japan fan, you may have one out of the 47 prefectures which you hold particularly close to your heart. Now you can rep your favourite area of Japan with a beautifully crafted silver necklace, formed in the shape of that prefecture.

Each one was skillfully handcrafted by first cutting out the outline of the whole nation of Japan from a single sheet of silver, then the individual prefectures are carved out and attached to a chain.

The company behind the jewellery, Jam Home Made, also conducted an online survey of 1410 people aged twenty to fifty, to find out more about how Japanese people feel about their home towns.

When the participant was asked if they love their hometown, the prefectures with the most positive answers were Tokyo and Nagano. The least loved was Akita with only 66.7% of Akita natives responding in the affirmative.

For those people who love their hometowns, a prefecture necklace makes the perfect good luck charm, keeping a piece of your home by your heart at all times, providing a sense of security.

The makers assure us that even if we’re not that fond of our hometowns, we can strengthen the love through wearing a perfect replica of the prefecture’s shape around our necks.

The survey-takers were also asked to identify various prefectures based on outline alone, and out of all of them the least recognised was Tokushima.

As a conversation starter, these accessories are probably a great way to promote some sometimes overlooked prefectures. A small size one costs 9000 yen, while a medium one costs 12000 yen. A small price to pay to restore Tokushima's pride!
