Wallace and Gromit, the eccentric British claymation institution are celebrating 30 cracking years and Japan is joining in the fun in their favourite way, with a themed collaboration cafe menu.
The best place for this to take place is surely the permanent Shaun the Sheep cafe in Kichijoji, Tokyo. This ‘Sunday Brunch’ cafe hosts a permanent collaboration menu, serving up dishes inspired by the wooly mischief maker.
In order to celebrate Shaun’s fellow Aardman Animation creations, he's making some room on the menu for a range of dishes to honour the cheese-loving duo as well.
One of the menu items is a toad in the hole style dish, featuring the titular characters front and centre. The meal includes sausages, mashed potato, vegetables, and the rarest of treats in Japan, a Yorkshire pudding. It also has a sprinkling of cheese, as expected from a meal that celebrates Wallace. Possibly due to the rare nature of the Yorkshire pud, only ten of these exclusive toad in the holes will be sold each day.
Gromit also gets a chance to shine on his own, starring in a cheesecake a la mode topped with his favourite cornflakes. The baked cheesecake is accompanied by vanilla ice cream, berry sauce and a crumbly topping.
Due to Shaun the Sheep’s popularity in Japan, he managed to get a cameo in the dubbed version of Wallace and Gromit’s movie, A Close Shave. So here he is turning up on their collaboration menu too, with a French toast covered in… cheese, Gromit!! In this case, cheddar and Gruyere topped with candied bacon.
The sinister penguin from The Wrong Trousers could turn up anywhere, even in his own cheesy dessert drink. Feathers McGraw is popping out of this strawberry cheesecake flavoured milk tea, with his thieving mitts on an icy diamond.
The special Wallace and Gromit collaboration menu is available for a limited time only, until 31st October.
