Upon finding out Japan has somewhat of an obsession with the British animation series Shaun the sheep, the Bristolian in me couldn’t help but feel proud to know that part of my city’s culture has had an impact in the country I now call home.
Produced by Aardman Animations – a Bristol-based animation company – the iconic television series following the mischievous life of Shropshire Sheep Shaun, shares the hall of fame with other Aardman claymation classics such as Wallace and Gromit and Chicken Run.
Of Course, as a country with a deep love of characters that are both cute and full of charm, there’s no way Japan could escape from the lure of Shaun and his chaotic flock of friends. Naturally, over the last several years a number of cafes and pop-up stores celebrating the wonderful world of Shaun have been cropping up around the country. But for hardcore fans, no place quite compares to Shaun Village, which opened up in Machida’s Grandberry Park back in 2019.
Consisting of both a shop and cafe, Shaun Village offers up a range of merchandise and food featuring a range of favourite characters from the hit animation series. Earlier this year, the venue released a special autumn menu, and now that the temperature has begun to drop they have announced their winter-limited editions.
Available until the 25th of December 2021, the new menu is perfect for those looking for a little bit of British Christmas comedy and cheer.
