Star Wars With A Dash Of Studio Ghibli Makes For Charming Results
As the home of beloved animation powerhouse Studio Ghibli, Japan is overflowing with awesome merchandise inspired by the iconic characters. Donguri Republic (Donguri Kyowakoku) is the source of all the coolest official Studio Ghibli goods in Japan. You can find anything, from tableware to tea leaves, to stylish clothing. This Ghibli wonderland, which has branches all over Japan, deals in goods to suit any fan of the legendary animation studio.
If you’re an anime fan looking for a particularly attractive timepiece, the shop's new releases could be of great interest to you.
This range of clock ornaments are incredibly detailed, and the design is fully realised all the way around, making it beautiful from every angle. The thoughtfulness inherent in the design goes right down to the clock faces, which perfectly match the aura of the character. More than just a way to tell the time, they also work as a lovely way to decorate your desk or mantlepiece.
There’s five new designs, and each one represents a different classic Studio Ghibli animation.
Probably the most instantly recognisable character from the magical worlds of Ghibli is Totoro. Here he is shown holding an umbrella, instantly reminding us of the iconic scene in the movie. The clock face shows a sprout growing from the ground, with simple and cute numbering.
The Kiki’s Delivery Service clock portrays Jiji, Kiki’s cat, surprised by a stuffed animal version of himself. The clock’s numbers are shown in roman numerals giving a classy vibe which suits the film completely.
Perhaps one of the lesser known characters, for Spirited Away we have Yubaba’s son, Boh. The bright red gives the ornament traditional Japanese vibes and the clock has the character for ‘Boh’ written in the middle, encircled with more Chinese characters.
These first three designs will be released towards the end of December, while the following two won’t be available until January.
The Laputan robot from Laputa: Castle in the Sky has a mechanical-looking clock on his breast.
For the Princess Mononoke ornament, the clock is shown in place of San’s mask, and the face is emblazoned with the same design.
If you want to get your hands on one of these lovely character clocks, they will be on sale in Donguri Republic’s stores, as well as their online shop, each one costing between 4000 and 5800 yen before tax.
