“A Man and His Cat” gets drama adaptation starring Japanese-American actor Masao Kusakari
Illustrator and manga artist Yuuki Kikuchi's "The Croc Who Dies in 100 Days"「100日後に死ぬワニ」 (hyaku-nichi go ni shinu wani) reached its inevitable and tragic conclusion on March 20th.
And just like the flurry of sakura petals—traditional Japanese symbols of the ephemeral beauty of life—which fill the final frame, the manga was immediately followed by a flurry of announcements and developments expanding on the popular series. Fans were treated to a collaboration music video (see below) with Ikimonogakari's beautiful song "Ikiru" (To live), news of a book on April 8th (online reservations here), and even plans for a movie adaptation.
As we introduced earlier, the manga, which the author posted on his Twitter account and then his Instagram account every day for 100 days from December 2019, traces the mundane life of a crocodile, Wani Kun, and his friends. The protagonist is unaware of his fate, but the readers are informed at the end of each chapter with the message: "X days left until death."
As the meaning of the finale and Wani Kun's fate is still being hotly debated online, fans can already look forward to an exhibition planned from April 15th to 28th at Monotory, an experience-based space in the Asobuild entertainment complex at Yokohama Station.
