Swiss Army Knife inventor Victorinox is releasing a new lineup of multipurpose knives inspired by the most revered samurai of Japan's Sengoku Period (Age of Warring States). The high quality knives incorporate the armor color scheme and family crest of three iconic samurai warlords, and depicts them in the traditional Japanese ink art of sumi-e, which is often used to illustrate warriors. The samurai chosen to be highlighted in this series are Sanada Yukimura, Date Masamune, and Mitsunari Ishida.
Sanada Yukimura
Sanada Yukimura is a celebrated warrior best known for being the defending general during the Siege of Osaka, carrying nicknames such as "number one warrior in Japan" and the "crimson demon of war". The knife carries his family crest (which is said to symbolize a readiness to die at any time) and the red color scheme his army wore during the famous siege.
Date Masamune
Masmune is often praised as one of the Sengoku period's most brilliant tacticians. Some legends say he plucked his own eye out when it was pointed out to him that an enemy could grab it on the battlefield, earning him the name "One-Eyed Dragon of Ōshu". The knife displays his bamboo sparrow family crest as well as the design of the blue polka dot haori (kimono-style jacket) he was said to favor.
Mitsunari Ishida
Ishida is most known for leading the Western Army at the famous battle of Sekigahara and winning the loyalty of Toyotomi Hideyoshi due to his expert financial managing skills. The knife features his family crest slogan of unification under heaven "One person is for everyone. For one person" and wisteria emblem.
Each knife contains the following:
・ Large blade
・ Small blade
・ Can opener
・ Minus screwdriver 3mm
・ Punch
・ A flathead screwdriver 6mm
· Wire stripper
・ Reamer (drilling), awl
・ Corkscrew
・ Scissors
・ Multi hook
・ Toothpick
The famous samurai-inspired Swiss Army Knives are available for 9,000 yen (plus tax) from Victorinox Japan, Rakuten, and Amazon.
