Official Studio Ghibli fashion brand GBL will open their first ever brick and mortar store in Miyashita Park in Shibuya this summer, after peddling their wares online for years through Studio Ghibli merch megastore Donguri Republic.
GBL’s style is described as ‘American casual’, and they reimagine motifs from the animation studio’s classic films as designs for trendy and wearable fashion items.
For their spring-summer collection, they recently released a lineup of awesome loose fitting t-shirts featuring various beloved characters.
Now they’re taking on a more brightly coloured summer trend, and releasing their own collection of Hawaiian shirts.
There’s two original patterns to choose from. The first design is inspired by Kiki’s Delivery Service and is called ‘Memories of Koriko’. A sunny yellow background is adorned with various scenes from the fictional port town where Kiki resides, including appearances by the main character herself, and her cat Jiji.
The second design is based around My Neighbour Totoro, and is called ‘Acorn Leaf’. The adorable pattern features bright green leaves, acorns, soot sprites and some hiding small Totoros.
Both designs are available as a unisex shirt, or a skirt.
The two can even be worn together as a bright and eye-catching two-piece set.
This summery collection can be copped through either the Donguri Sora online shop, or in GBL's store later this summer.
