Haagen-Dazs Japan are known for incorporating distinctly Japanese ingredients into their ice cream. With exciting limited edition flavours such as soybean, purple sweet potato, and the ever-popular matcha green tea powder, every year is like a rolling lineup of delicious surprises.
Especially when it comes to seasonal tastes, Haagen Dazs Japan take plenty of inspiration from the country’s fave flavours every month.
For this September release, the ice cream makers are celebrating autumn with a staple fall treat, roasted sweet potato.
The ice cream itself has a potently sweet, honey-like taste, just like a well roasted sweet potato, mixed with creamy milk. Then the honey sauce is made from beni haruka, a type of sweet potato with a very high sugar content, to ensure a rich sweetness.
For an interesting texture, the coarse grains of the beni haruka were also mixed in, adding a bit of bite to the smooth ice cream.
This autumnal ice cream creation can be found in supermarkets and convenience stores all over Japan costing 295 yen (not including tax).
