Japanese twins Ami and Aya live evocative lives as a musical duo and fashion icons

Instagram hosts the content of many unique and famous artists. Tokyo-based twin creators AMIAYA are notable among them. The pair was born on November 8, 1988, with Ami being the younger sister and Aya the older. They are accomplished musicians, fashion models, and the fashion directors of their own clothing brand jouetie.

The twins are growing in popularity, not only in Japan, but worldwide. Looking at their Instagram, it’s easy to understand their mass appeal. Recently Ami posted this picture on the platform:

"The vivid color of this PEGASO BAG is cute. Bright colors make us happy."

As you can see, the contrast inherent in their style is striking. They have a certain cool ambience that is entirely on-brand for AMIAYA. The twins noted that fashion shoots and events are unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19. However, they want fans to experience a taste of a fashion shoot which they sought to accomplish with their ‘AMIAYA STREET SNAP’ photos. The pair took photos early in the morning before the area became crowded. They also carefully selected their outfits and accessories to match their hairstyle and create a full effect.

Aya also posted recent additions to their jouetie fashion line:

"Cinematic version of ‘Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Eternal’ and jouetie, a special collaboration."

It’s encouraging to see the fashionistas remaining creative despite the difficult circumstances. Their countless fans certainly can enjoy the contribution and perhaps find inspiration in the perseverance of their brand. Indeed, fashion is a big part of people's lives in Japan.

If you are unaware, Sailor Moon is a famous anime that was in production from 1991 to 1997. It is widely popular, especially among young women. Naturally, fan’s reacted with excitement to the announcement:

  • “Wow, Sailor Moon!!”
  • “What an awesome collaboration.”
  • “It’s the best.”
  • “I want it!”

Playing off the nostalgia vibe, Aya also posted a picture of the two when they were children:

"Twins frozen in front of the pretty Sailor Moon."

As you can see, someone is wearing a Sailor Moon costume behind them. I doubt they realized at the time they'd have their own fashion brand featuring the character when they became adults.

You have to admit, the pair are striking when they wear kimono. They certainly elevate fashion and style to the level of art. I look forward to following them in the future and seeing their future work.
