Fans of the manga and anime series Inuyasha (「犬夜叉」) and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon (「半妖の夜叉姫-戦国御伽草子」 Han’yō no yashahime: sengoku otogizōshi), the 2020 sequel of the original series, will be thrilled to know that now they can see their favorite characters, also experience their world at the newly opened attraction in Tokyo.

I was lucky enough to have a go before its opening; I must declare that the whole atmosphere and stepping into Inuyasha's world felt so nostalgic and evoked many fun memories of my childhood.

I remember that my friends and I used to watch the series on Animax when we were little. There were times we played and pretended that we are also the main protagonists of the Sengoku Period that are defeating the demons (妖怪 yōkai) while looking for the Sacred Jewel (四魂の玉 Shikon no Tama) pieces.

When I first heard the news about the Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon spinoff anime, I couldn’t hide my excitement, and now, with the new attraction, I feel overwhelmed with joy.

As I had the opportunity to try it out, I thought of sharing my experience and thoughts with all the Inuyasha and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon fans worldwide. So without further ado, let's try out the "Inuyasha and Yashahime: Princess Half-Demon escape game" in Tokyo Dome!

On the way to the event

To get there, I used the Toei Subway-Mita Line (都営地下鉄三田線 Toeichikatetsu Mita Sen), got off at the Suidōbashi Station (水道橋駅 Suidōbashi-eki) and used the A2 exit (A2出口).

If you come via JR, you can get off at the East Exit of the Suidōbashi Station.

You also have two other options: getting off at the Kōrakuen Station (後楽園駅) Exit 2 via Tokyo Metro Marunouchi Line / Namboku Line (東京メトロ丸ノ内線・南北線) or at the Kasuga Station (春日駅) Exit A1 via Toei Subway Oedo Line (都営地下鉄大江戸線).

After that, you will need to head to Tokyo Dome’s Viking Zone. The reception booth is close to the Jump Store so, you will notice it right away.

Even for someone like me, who is lost when it comes to GPS or directions, the area was so easy to find. You can hear the music from the series playing in the background, and there are so many posters with the characters around that it is impossible to miss it.

I was so excited to see everything that I took my time to take several photos before heading to the reception area, then went to get all the necessary things for my adventure.

Reception - Explanation - Materials

I went to the reception booth, where the staff handed me a pass, a pen, a bracelet, the scenario book with the story, and a problem-solving kit (that my husband had a lot of fun solving when I got back home).

All the information was in Japanese, but they told me that they are considering introducing English and other languages in the future.

I also had to have a smartphone, earphones, and the Line app downloaded (to hear the audio part).

The staff kindly guided me to where the opening booth was, so I could also hear the description. Then, I headed off to the Sengoku Period once again, but this time as a full grown-up and in a more historically accurate location.

Stay hydrated!

One thing I didn’t take into consideration was the hot and humid summers of Japan.

I need to warn those of you who plan on going back to the Warring States period of Japan (戦国時代 sengoku jidai) in summer, to remember their water bottle and eventually take a lot of cooling-wet tissues, mini-fans, and UV-blocking parasols with you.

Because of my enthusiasm, this aspect totally slipped my mind, but luckily enough, it is Japan, and there are vending machines everywhere, so I managed to grab a bottle of water.

Needless to say, my favorite character from the series is Inuyasha. Seeing the posters, the beautiful underground mosaic art, and the mini-exhibitions there with him and all the characters was fantastic!

There are various character goods and event merchandise available, but also an entire character-inspired menu!

For each character dish or drink order, you also receive one original plastic folder (8 per total), and you have no less than 19 options of food you can choose from.

Rules and play time

As I mentioned above, the escape game requires the LINE app, so it might be a good idea to prepare in advance.

There is no time limit, but the estimated time for finishing the course is around 120-180 minutes.  You can start whenever you want, and you can either do it alone or with someone.

After the reception and after getting your special kit, you will have to follow the story written there and begin the escape game in Tokyo Dome!

Story

The story starts by informing you that it is the Sengoku Period.

The peaceful days are, however, disrupted by a demon who suddenly attacks.

You are petrified and unable to react, but at that moment, you hear: "Move! Scar of the Wind" (「どいてろ！ 風の傷！」 Doitero! kaze no kizu!).

Yes, it is Inuyasha who makes his appearance and slashes the demon in mere seconds! Your life got saved. The yōkai suddenly disappears but not until placing a death curse on you.

However, in the direction he escaped to, something appears.

It is a place called "Amusement Park," a paradise of entertainment where people gather to have fun.

So peculiar! There was no such a thing in the Sengoku Period, and it seems that whoever fled that way never turned back.

With Inuyasha and the gang, you head off to this new place and confront the demons and the Yashahime. But, will it be possible to get rid of the death curse?

It is up to you!

Following the story, you will eventually get to discover Tokyo Dome, too. You'll also need to ride an attraction while trying to get rid of your curse and clear the path to your final goal.

Impressions

I genuinely feel grateful that I had the chance to test it out before its opening. In my opinion, this game can be a great experience not only for Inuyasha fans but also for those who want to spice things up during their trip to Tokyo and for those of you who enjoy escape games or quizzes in general.

The only thing you need to pay attention to (except for the heat if you come during summer), is the language barrier.

It might be better to come with someone who knows Japanese and can read it, too, as it might be a bit difficult to clear it otherwise.

I went by myself, and even though I know Japanese, I struggled a little.

Either way, my opinion is that these types of escape games are more fun when you go with more people. I also decided that the next time I go, I will bring some friends and get rid of the curse and survive (and record my victory on camera!).

And after we're done, I will enjoy talking to everyone while having one of the character-themed fancy drinks and amazing-looking dishes, take more pictures, make boomerangs, then talk again about how great and memorable the whole experience was.

Since the main stage is the amusement park, I had fun exploring it, looking for hints and finding the weaknesses of the yōkai. You also get to choose multiple routes, ride an attraction or enter event booths. Since there will be a lot of walking, remember to wear something comfortable.
