kurimaro collection is a specialty store that sells only one type of sweet: colorful cookies that look like cute creatures. Their most popular cookies are ones inspired by your typical dog or cat or rabbit, but they’ve also shown versatility in their ability to make anything cute, even deep sea creatures and dinosaurs.

Their latest batch of cookies was inspired by creatures that many people wouldn’t particularly find cute, but somehow, kurimaro collection has found a way. What they came up with is a lineup of “microorganism cookies”, which were created with the help of a microbial researcher from Kanazawa University.

Some of the incredible microorganisms they featured include the tardigrades -- one of earth’s most resilient animals, the planarian -- a type of flatworm that can regenerate body parts, and the volvox -- a green algae that has ancestors dating back to 200 million years ago. Their cookie collection also pays tribute to the microorganisms that help clean our water and those that convert waste matter into energy.

kurimaro collection sells their microorganism cookies through their website in random sets of 10 (4,320 yen), 5, (2,400 yen) and 3 (1,400 yen) cookies. The microorganism cookies are available now until November 10, 2021, and can be ordered by customers in Japan.
