As a country that loves cute and charming characters, perhaps it’s no surprise that Japan has a soft spot for the claymation creations of British animators Aardman. There’s a cafe in Kichijoji, Tokyo, which permanently has a Shaun the Sheep menu on offer, and even has Wallace and Gromit events on from time to time.
But for true fans of Shaun the Sheep, it’s worth taking the trip to Machida, where you can find the Shaun Village which just opened in November 2019. This includes a cafe and shop which has been made in the image of Shaun’s world.
The cafe has announced their autumn menu and there’s so many adorable treats on offer, all featuring the various characters from the animation.
Many of these dishes are inspired by British food in reference to Shaun’s home country. There’s even some super cute trifles starring Shaun himself, but they have a Japanese taste twist as they are matcha (powdered green tea) and hojicha (roasted green tea) flavoured (1650 yen).
Another very British option is the afternoon tea set which is on the permanent menu. The savoury tier has macaroni and cheese, a hamburger and fish and chips, and for the desserts, diners can choose two cakes from the menu (4500 yen, serves two people).
The autumn menu is already available alongside the usual dishes, check out Shaun Village’s website for full menu and more information.
