If you are a fan of Japanese manga and anime classics, it’s more than likely that you have heard of GeGeGe no Kitarō. Written by the late renowned manga artist Shigeru Mizuki, the story revolves around the adventures of Kitarō – a yokai spirit boy who was born in a cemetery after the death of his parents – as he fights for peace between the yokai world and the land of the living.
Though the original manga and anime series were published and broadcast back in the 1960’s, a recent revival in the interest of yokai has ensured Shigeru Mizuki’s GeGeGe no Kitarō remains ever popular to this very day.

The 8th of March this year will mark the 100th anniversary since the birth of Shigeru Mizuki, and in celebration designer apparel brand Graniph has teamed up with Mizuki Production (Shigeru Mizuki’s manga company) to produce 26 unique fashion items featuring famous characters from GeGeGe no Kitarō.

Pre-sales for the collaborative collection will be live until the 28th of February, whilst the goods will become available both instore and online from the 1st of March 2022.
Below is a product summary of what you can expect to find in the collection (all prices shown include tax).

"Back Baird" T-shirt
Price: 5,900 yen
Size: S / M / L

GeGeGe no Kitarō’s Back Baird yokai character seems to have taken inspiration from a legendary creature in Western folklore – the bugbear, hobgoblin or boogeyman. Embroidered on the back of this Graniph shirt, is a motif of GeGeGe no Kitarō’s Back Baird. Also, if you look closely inside the front chest pocket, you will find Back Baird’s eye returning the stare.
