With summer heat and humidity reaching some pretty harsh levels in Japan, many have been switching up their fashion choices to focus on staying cool and protecting from the sun. As important as it is to keep safe, there may be some who feel it to be a sacrifice in style.
Fortunately, Japanese armor and weaponry cosplayer, Vtuber, and overall enthusiast @sakone_shogen has taken the time to suggest an ensemble that will shield you from the sun in style and even match while wearing a mask. @sakone_shogen took to Twitter to share some striking photos of themselves modeling a look that has some thinking it might actually be a viable cool option:

"I've been saying this for a while now, but this is my recommendation for an ensemble that will guard you against the sun and won't be made to look unusual by wearing a mask."
In the somewhat joking but now viral post, @sakone_shogen is seen donning a kasa, a traditional low-cut bamboo hat, that would look right at home on the head of a masterless samurai or assassin in a Japanese period piece.
While it may not seem practical, many online were captivated by the look, with some mentioning that since yukata and jinbei are already worn in summer, why not add on a kasa hat that even provides some social distancing?
When asked about the hats, @sakone_shogen clarified that the one he's modeling is specifically a deep-braided kasa, which cost around 20,000 yen as there are not as many craftsmen for them these days in Japan.
You may not be able to carry around the sword, but he does make an argument to revive the stylish kasa! Fortunately it's a much easier to wear outfit than the awesome armor pieces that @sakone_shogen usually wears.
Those looking for more cool Japanese armor-based outfits can follow on Twitter, as well as YouTube where you can see @sakone_shogen stream games like Ghost of Tsushima.
