Typically when traveling by train, you're looking to get off at a station only because it's to get to your destination. Cat lovers visiting Japan may want to to make an exception for one subway station in Yokohama, however.
The Yokohama Municipal Subway Blue Line is well traveled by commuters, but many are just learning that a small stop called Odoriba Station is actually a train station subtly dedicated to feline fans. The station's name in Japanese translates to "place of dancing", and that's because of an old folktale that says cats would secretly gather every night to dance. Living up to that name and history, the train station is fully decorated with a cat motif!
Oimono Agemono (@amam_te), a ceramic artist living in the Yokohama area, recently visited the station and took pictures that have cat lovers in Japan ready to make an excuse to pass through the station. Take a look at how Odoriba station is decorated with a kitty theme right down to the tickets!

With cat eyes on the wall, paw prints on the floor, and even cat-themed tickets, there's a kitty around every corner at Odoriba station--even on the ceilings. The Yokohama City Transportation Bureau previously Tweeted out that while they brought back the popular cat tickets on February 22nd of 2021 (which is celebrated as Cat Day in Japan), and that the tickets are exclusive to Odoriba Station. It also seems like there are some hidden cat motifs that you may have to look extra hard to notice!
The photos quickly made a splash on Twitter among cat lovers, who had no idea such a cute station existed. Those planning an excursion for the day may want to find a way to make Odoriba part of their trip to Japan's good luck cat temple.
