Typically when you're looking to make a big investment in a high-end luxury chair, you're expecting as comfy a sitting experience as you can get. One that's recently been released in Japan that appears to accomplish just the opposite has become something of a viral gorgeous eyesore.
factory-M (@factory___m), a workshop in Saitama prefecture that deals with natural stones and online retailing, shared a photo of a chair they're selling that definitely qualifies as luxury seating, as it sells for 450,000 yen ($3,406.16 USD at the current exchange rate). It's one of the most aesthetically pleasing chairs you'll ever see, but your back probably wouldn't be thanking you if you sat down on it:

It's an amethyst chair! factory-M claims that the chair, made from actual amethyst, is actually something you can sit on (if you figure out just the right angle, apparently), but admits that while customers who have visited their store have tried sitting on them, but as of December 20, 2022, no one has yet purchased one.
The gorgeous but very likely painful chair has attracted a lot of attention online, with many commenting that they'd love to have one in their office, but would be too afraid to sit on one. Perhaps if you swing by factory-M, you can give the gemstone chair a whirl and see if the prickly seat is worth the price.
