Mochi rice cakes are one of the main foods eaten to help ring in the New Year in Japan. Whether you're eating it as is or in a hearty ozoni soup, mochi is a go-to for beginning and ending of the year foodie celebrations.
Even the biggest mochi fan can get bored of ways to prepare it, but fortunately pro-chef Mugi Rice (@HG7654321) has introduced a new recipe that has people salivating. Mugi Rice has become quite popular for their simple but delicious "cooking lifehacks", which include the best way to eat bread and mouthwatering tempura sauce recipes.
The chef's recommended way to eat mochi has caught fire on Twitter with foodies, and is quite simple to prepare. Simply top your mochi with mentsuyu, a Japanese light dipping sauce and soup base used for soba and udon noodles, a little soy sauce, a sprinkle of white ground sesame seeds, and some wasabi, and voila! You've got some gourmet rice cakes to dig into!

According to Mugi Rice, the flavor of the bonito in the mentsuyu and the spiciness of the wasabi perfectly accent the flavor of the white ground sesame, and if it tastes half as good as it looks, we're going to take their word for it! The recipe has become a huge hit with many online who have tried it, so if you're looking to have some mochi to kick off the year, give this one a try!
