One Japanese Twitter user, @p68qbhhurq9kxjc, however, took an even more outside-the-box by surprisingly popping a kernel of popcorn with a hair straightener, sending his female friend screaming in pleasant surprise.

While there's no real particular reason to pop an entire bag of popcorn one by one with a flat iron, at least you know it's doable in case you ever want to open up a hair-salon movie theater combination!

Judging by the friend's reaction, we think they'll be sticking to the microwave.
