There’s nothing like ice cream to expel the heat of Japan’s humid summers, and it’s no secret that the Japanese take their frozen desserts very seriously. New, limited edition flavors are constantly hitting the shelves of grocery stores throughout the country, and finding that one diamond in the rough is one of the many ways people make most of the burning hot season.
Like many of Japan’s ice cream makers, Haagen-Dazs Japan is always experimenting with new flavors, and just a few of their limited edition ice creams for 2016 include salty vanilla and caramel, royal milk tea, and white peach. This late summer, though, sweet potato lovers will be rejoicing to their newly announced ice cream flavor — purple sweet potato!

Available for a limited time from August 30th, 2016, the purple sweet potato ice cream will feature purple ice cream of refined sweetness, with rich purple sweet potato sauce drizzled on top. The flavor was actually sold in 2012 and 2013, but is making a comeback this year due to its previous popularity.
The Japanese sure love their sweet potatoes — they’re often consumed as snacks, and purple sweet potatoes in particular are already widely adored as a delicious ice cream flavor. But no ice cream is the same, and Haagen-Dazs’ purple sweet potato ice cream is guaranteed to grab the hungry hearts of people everywhere!
