July 29th marked the Japanese release of Godzilla Resurgence, the newest installation to the Godzilla franchise, but fans won’t have to wait too long for an entirely new movie featuring the King of Monsters to hit theaters once more.
The already much anticipated movie, titled GODZILLA, will actually be the franchise’s first animated film since the very first movie came out in 1954. Scheduled to be released next year in 2017, it has garnered much attention in Japan for the involvement of Gen Urobuchi, a writer of visual novels and animations whose works include Psycho-Pass, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and Fate/Zero.

Many fans have speculated from the movie’s official website that it may be set in the near future with possible sci fi-esque qualities, in an apocalyptic world, or on a whole other planet altogether. The teaser visual implies nothing more, so until they come out with a trailer, the rest of the world can only sit and wonder what the Godzilla franchise has in store next.
