Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki has inspired countless other artists throughout the world, and France-based psychologist and digital painter Ciryl Rolando can attest to being one of them.
Working under the name Aquasixio, Rolando takes a surreal, fantastical approach to create otherworldly artwork to catch the emotional aspects of life in “tiny, frozen, flat colored rectangles.”
Rolando writes,
His paintings are created with only Photoshop CS2 and a Wacom tablet, through which he often depicts animals, as well as children who are lost or in quest for their personal truths. Many of their stories are dark, as according to Rolando, the “darkness of life is more inspiring than happy and safe people.”
You can see more of Rolando’s breathtaking artwork on DeviantArt, Facebook, or his official website. He also sells original products featuring his paintings, which you can purchase online.
