Cat-shaped Japanese sweets aren't exactly a new thing, but they are definitely a welcome addition to the menu of Japanese online retailer Felissimo, who specializes in cat-themed goods. Now they're introducing a perhaps too cute to eat treat with cat-shaped marshmallows sandwiched between a traditional Japanese sweet.

Monaka (最中) are a type of traditional Japanese confectionery, which sandwiches azuki bean jam in between two wafers made from mochi. Felissimo is resurrecting a popular treat called the Nyashmallow (a mashup of marshmallow and the Japanese word for "meow"--nyan), and giving it a monaka shell to rest in.

While the marshmallow can be eaten together with the monaka to give it a fluffy feline texture, the monaka can also be opened up so that the marshmallow can be taken out. You could eat it separately, but we feel like it would take tremendous courage to actually bite into these adorable faces!

The six treat set comes with two different types of red bean paste from Hokkaido, and even one with sweet white bean jam. The set ships domestically in Japan only, unfortunately, for 1800 yen ($17.70 USD) in separate packages over the course of six months as a rotation. Felissimo does have a global site, so you can always hold out for the possibility of it being released there. A portion of the proceeds will be donated by Felissimo to an organization for owner-less cats. If you can't get your paws on them, at least you can enjoy these pictures that show off the different feline facial expressions.
