Whether it's Harry Potter or Super Mario Brothers, themed chess sets tend to be on the pricey end of the spectrum compared to the standard boards. Still, their craftwork and beauty can be tempting, and even those who don't usually play might find themselves wanting a unique chess set for their home. Well, thanks to artist Raphael Schaaf, Pokémon fans can have their very own Pokémon-themed chess set for absolutely free — so long as they have a 3D printer to print out the pieces with.

Though Schaaf originally made the Pokémon chess set for a friend's birthday, he was generous enough to share the data with the rest of the world. The data files can be downloaded online, and from there can be taken to a 3D printer to be made into real chess pieces. Each piece has a Pokéball base and a Pokémon standing atop it, with characters including Pikachu, Charmander, Eevee, and Mewtwo, just to name a few.

The pieces also have differently shaped bases to better differentiate them: the Pawns are round, the Bishops hexagonal, the Knights heptagonal, the Rooks octagonal, and the Kings and Queens pentagonal in shape. To have this epic Pokémon chess set, download the data files online and find a 3D printer nearest you!
