You don't need to be a stationery enthusiast to appreciate this marvel of fine craftsmanship, beauty and utility. With their OMOSHIROI BLOCK series, Japanese architectural model maker Triad Inc. has created one of the coolest memo pads we have ever seen.

Triad Inc. has leveraged its experience making architectural models to create quite an extensive range of memo pads covering famous Japanese landmarks such as Kyoto's world-renowned Kiyomizudera Temple (seen above), with four variants in different hues, Tokyo Tower, the famous touristic landmark Kaminarimon Gate in the Asakusa neighborhood, which leads to the Sensoji Temple, captured scenes from famous cities such as Kyoto, Detroit, Chicago and Paris, and objects such as a steam locomotive and a grand piano.
In the OMOSHIROI BLOCK memo pad shown above, called "Kyoto -HANA-," you gradually see the shape of an intricate three-dimensional model appear with each sheet you pull out. Remarkably, while you participate in revealing the hidden form vertically, a task which will only be complete when the last sheet is removed, another design plays out horizontally as some sheets contain cutouts shaped in designs that match the theme of the memo pad. For example, in "Kyoto" model, some sheets reveal the cutout silhouettes of Japanese women in traditional wear holding up parasols.

Updated Information
Fortunately for those living in the Kansai area, however, sales resumed on February 10th at the Tokyu Hands store in Umeda, Osaka. Please note that Tokyu Hands places a limit on the number of pads which can be purchased at the same time, they won't take requests by phone or email to put the pads on hold for people who intend coming in to the store, and they don't accept COD purchases.
Please check their website for updates (the Japanese language site may be updated first).
Prices range between 980 JPY for the more simple "Scene" series (not pictured here) up to 10,000 JPY for the more intricate landmarks in the "Shape" series.
