The legacy that Harvey Weinstein leaves behind will rightfully start and stop with the words "sexual predator". That twisted legacy, however, is very closely tied to the immense power he wielded in Hollywood and how he abused it in his tenure with Miramax Films. The powerful and combative Hollywood producer famously earned the nickname “Harvey Scissorhands” for his tendency to slice up films with personally imposed cuts, resulting in taxing re-shoots and disgruntled filmmakers.
Perhaps it was his sometimes described as curmudgeonly nature that spared legendary Studio Ghibli director Hayao Miyazaki from having the 1997 U.S. release Princess Mononoke butchered by Weinstein (under a distribution deal with Disney, which had acquired Miramax). Weinstein approached Miyazaki with his typical personally suggested cuts, but the Studio Ghibli director was unrelenting in keeping his vision for the film untouched (Disney lacked creative control, anyway). In a rare interview with The Guardian, laughed when approached with the rumor that he sent a katana to Harvey Weinstein with a note attached that read "No Cuts".

Although he would admit, "actually, my producer did that. Although I did go to New York to meet this man, this Harvey Weinstein, and I was bombarded with this aggressive attack, all these demands for cuts..." before smiling and boasting, "I defeated him."
