Japan is home to so many regional specialties that it seems impossible to eat them all. In order to sample every culinary treat that Japan has to offer, you would need an inordinate amount of time and money. So lucky for us in Tokyo, there’s often special festivals and events that bring these sought after foods to us.
One such example is the IKESEI Sweets Festival which is currently at Ikebukuro’s Seibu department store.
Sweets specialist stores from all over the country have been invited to the festival so you can try out some of the most popular desserts from each region. You can enjoy Fukuoka’s buttercake then simply take a few steps to the next stand to indulge in Kyoto’s matcha dorayaki parfait. With 60 different stalls to choose from, sweet toothed visitors can go wild.
Some of the sweets are to be eaten there and then, but others are sold in boxes that could make great presents. Here’s a chance to get your hands on some special souvenirs to impress everyone back home with!
The festival is taking place on the 7th floor (south side) of Seibu department store in Ikebukuro. It’s easily accessible through Ikebukuro station itself just follow signs for the Seibu exit.
See the website for all the sweet treats on offer! Although the website is only in Japanese, there’s also plenty of photos to tempt you!
