Trick or treat? This black cat chocolate cake is the Halloween sweet to eat
With Halloween a month away, many of those who plan to be in Tokyo this season are thinking of doing something fun for Halloween. There are parades, parties and events you can attend, but when it comes to dining options, there's one place in Harajuku you'll definitely want to include on your list and that's the Kawaii Monster Cafe. This icon of Harajuku fashion culture is a truly unique experience, charmingly kawaii as well as delightfully chaotic, and always popular with tourists and fashionable teens. Even Kim Kardashian made a visit.

Already worth visiting year round, Kawaii Monster Cafe is even more exciting in October when it brings out a monstrously marvelous Halloween menu. This year, the menu pays homage to a few "monster celebrities" from the West, with menu items featuring their own unique twist on vampires, Frankenstein and werewolves.

Cemetary without A Name - Cheese Gratin: 3,200 JPY
This dish, which is recommended for parties of three or more, makes quite a ghastly impression with a bread coffin! It's a hearty dish topped with rainbow-colored cheese. Enjoy the white sauce and cheese together with the bread. Don't forget to scoop up the "dirt" (purple breadcrumbs) around the coffin too.

Asachill as Monster Girl
Some of our readers may remember Kyoto pop singer, fashion model and MC Asachill from our interview last year (which includes a limited discography) and our special feature on the Pontocho neighborhood in which she was our guide. In addition to singing the theme song for Studio Trigger’s short anime “SEX and VIOLENCE with MACHSPEED,” Asachill has produced tracks and music videos with numerous creators.
Now based in Tokyo, Asachill has another way of expressing her creativity, as well as her love of Harajuku fashion and culture, as one of the five Monster Girls of Kawaii Monster Cafe.

Asachill will be at Kawaii Monster Cafe in October when this special menu is available, so you may see her when you visit, especially at lunch time! Of course, the other Monster Girls will also surely make your stay entertaining.
