Japan is home to a number of surprising dishes that have been awarded Michelin's coveted Bib Gourmand status, including riceballs, yakitori, and even ramen served in a used car dealership.
While udon noodles may have a rather unassuming image, the authentic Hakata-style udon made from Kyushu's specialty wheat served at the recently closed Hashida Taikichi in Roppongi (now operating in Shimbashi) maintained the status for three consecutive years. To the delight of udon fans in Tokyo, the store is opening a second branch in the neighborhood of Kanda, and is offering new dishes and even a takeout menu.
The Michelin-recognized flagship dish is famous for its delicious combination of golden soup made from high quality bonito and Nagasaki dashi, homemade noodles using prized flour, and reasonable price of 600 yen.
The Kanda store also has an exclusive menu item in the form of Soy Milk Sesame Miso udon, which offers a tonkotsu-esque thick soup topped with chicken meatballs.
