Sony's highly anticipated next-gen gaming console, the PlayStation 5, won't go on sale for a while, but at least we now know what its wireless controller will look like.
The DualSense™ features the much-hyped haptic feedback-equipped buttons, a built-in microphone allowing headset-free communication, and a new 'Create' button replacing the PS4 Share button, among other things.
However, the new controller's two-tone design, a departure from previous one-tone controllers, seems to be causing quite a stir on Twitter, with users drawing comparisons with anime and game characters, and more.
Here are a few of the more popular suggestions being put forth at the time of writing:
Totoro
From the shape of the black-toned section of the controller, what looks like eyes, and the space beneath the controller standing in for Totoro's mouth, it's not hard to see the resemblance to Totoro, mouth agape.
Rei Ayanami
With its white and black two-tone pattern, and especially the two strips of black running down the inside edge of the handle area, there's definitely something reminiscent of Rei Ayanami's shoulders when she's wearing her plug suit.
Roboco
Perhaps not as well-known as the first two, Virtual YouTuber Roboco also seems to have a few design points in common with the new controller, particularly in the lower half of her body.
A bra-top
The thin blue LED lines extending up from the black-toned area look like shoulder straps.
Other suggestions circulating on Twitter are the AMX-004 Qubeley from the Gundam franchise, EVE from WALL-E, and Drossel from Fireball.
The fact that the design is stimulating so much interest as soon as it was revealed is already a good sign for Sony, perhaps indicating that their new controller will be enjoyed not only for its features but the way it looks too.
