Commonly translated as fish cake, kamaboko is a Japanese cured surimi, typically made of boiled and processed whitefish. It's often served as an appetizer in bento boxes, enjoyed as a traditional New Year's food, and sometimes as a drinking snack. While it can come in many shapes and sizes, the classic pink and white pieces below are perhaps its most common incarnation.

So it may come as a startling choice for a stuffed animal. Fortunately, talented illustrator and stuffed animal maker Mochipan (@mochipan1115) who specializes in making adorable onigiri (riceballs) stuffed animals had no problem making a surprisingly cute kamaboko plushie!

As you can see, Mochipan's awesome stuffed kamaboko fits right in with its onigiri family members, and is particularly fluffy.
We would have never imagined it before, but now we sort of want a fish cake pet to enjoy coffee with and tuck into bed!
